The BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) — commonly referred to as the GDML — has been removed from ASQA's national training registry and is no longer a CRICOS-registered qualification as of October 2026. This change has significant implications for international students who were enrolled in, or planning to enrol in, this course.
What Is the BSB80120 GDML?
The BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) was a graduate-level vocational qualification registered under the BSB Business Services Training Package. It was designed as a pathway qualification for students with prior qualifications or work experience, delivered at a CRICOS-registered level suitable for Student visa 500 holders.
The qualification was popular with international students because it offered a relatively fast route to a graduate-level credential, with no mandatory prerequisite qualifications beyond basic entry requirements.
Why Was the GDML Cancelled?
ASQA cancelled the BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) registration following a compliance review. The decision was based on:
- Regulatory non-compliance identified during audit processes
- Concerns about course delivery standards and student outcome data
- Alignment with updated Training Package requirements under the Skills Infrastructure Reform
The qualification was removed from the National Training Information Services (NTIS) registry, which means it can no longer be lawfully delivered by any RTO in Australia.
What Does This Mean for Currently Enrolled Students?
If you were enrolled in a GDML program when it was cancelled, your registered training organisation (RTO) is legally required to:
- Notify you in writing about the course cancellation
- Provide a pathway to an alternative, CRICOS-registered qualification
- Issue a Statement of Attainment for any units you have successfully completed
- Offer a refund for any fees paid for units not yet delivered
You have 28 days from notification to either accept an alternative pathway or seek a refund. If your RTO has not contacted you, contact them directly and request written confirmation of your options.
Can I Still Get a Refund?
Yes. Under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000, you are entitled to a full refund of unspent tuition fees if your course is cancelled before you complete it. Request this in writing to your RTO and keep records of all correspondence. If your RTO refuses, you can lodge a complaint with the Overseas Students Ombudsman (free, independent resolution service).
What Alternative Courses Are Available?
Clinton Institute (RTO 41597, CRICOS Provider 03540C) offers several CRICOS-registered alternatives that are open for enrolment in 2026:
| Course | CRICOS Code | Duration | Work Placement |
|---|---|---|---|
| CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support | 115261A | 26–52 weeks | 120+ hours included |
| CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support | 115262M | 26–52 weeks | 120+ hours included |
| CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services | 115263K | 52 weeks | 200+ hours included |

| BSB50120 Diploma of Business | 110107G | 52 weeks | Not required |
Will This Affect My Post-Study Work Rights?
Since the GDML is no longer a recognised CRICOS qualification, it cannot be used as the basis for a post-study work visa application. If you have already completed the GDML and used it for a visa application, consult a registered migration agent — your visa status may not be affected if the course was valid at the time of your completion.
Transitioning to a CRICOS-registered alternative course now will give you a valid qualification for future visa applications.
What Should You Do Right Now?
- Contact your current RTO in writing and request your options and refund entitlement
- Do not pay any further fees to a provider offering GDML delivery — it is no longer legal
- Explore alternatives — Clinton Institute can provide a free enrolment assessment for GDML-affected students
- Check your visa conditions — if your course is cancelled, you have 28 days to find a new provider under Standard 9 of the National Code
- Get migration advice — speak to a registered migration agent about your specific situation
