SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality

Purpose of Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in hospitality supervisory positions. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems within broad guidelines. This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, and function and event venues.

Learner Characteristics / Client Cohort

Target groups for SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality are international students who are: seeking to pursue or further a career in hospitality management, seeking to enter a new industry sector, or seeking a pathway to higher education qualifications. Students will usually be new entrants. However, credit and/or RPL can be provided for those with existing skills and knowledge.

Pathways

After achieving SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality, individuals could progress to SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management or SIT60322 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management. This qualification provides a pathway to work in supervisory hospitality roles such as front of house supervisor, bar supervisor, or team leader in restaurants, hotels, clubs, and cafes.

Qualification Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. To enrol, students must: be at least 18 years of age, have completed at least the equivalent of Year 11, meet the English proficiency requirement (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent), and have appropriate Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) levels as determined by Clinton Institute's LLN test prior to enrolment. For international students, it is a condition of entry that upon acceptance, students provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa (subclass 500).

Assessment Modes

Compulsory Work Placement Arrangements

Students may be required to complete practical work placement hours as part of their course. Clinton Institute has established relationships with a range of hospitality venues in Melbourne and Hobart to facilitate student placements.
