Aged Care Work Placement in Melbourne — New International Student Guide

Your CHC33021 work placement is where your aged care qualification becomes real. Here is what international students need to know about placement in Melbourne.

RTO ID: 41597 | CRICOS Provider: 03540C

How Does Placement Work for International Students?

For international students on a subclass 500 student visa, your CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (CRICOS: 115261A) at Clinton Institute (RTO 41597) requires a minimum of 120 hours of supervised work placement in an approved aged care facility. This is a mandatory part of your CRICOS-registered course — not optional. Clinton Institute's placement team arranges your placement at a Melbourne aged care facility as part of your course fees.

What Clearances Do You Need?

Before placement starts, you must have: a National Police Check (via fit2work.com.au or equivalent, no older than 6 months), a Working with Children Check Victoria (WWCC — free for students enrolled in a recognised VET course), evidence of required vaccinations (COVID-19, influenza, dTpa, hepatitis B), and an NDIS Worker Screening Check (may be required by some facilities). Clinton Institute's student support team helps you organise each clearance.

What Happens During Placement?

During your 120 hours, you will work under supervision in a real aged care environment. Tasks include assisting residents with personal care routines, supporting meal times, participating in lifestyle activities, documenting observations, and following manual handling procedures. You will be assessed by a qualified aged care worker who signs off on your competency logbook.

Does Placement Count as Work Experience?

Your placement hours are unpaid and part of your course assessment — but they count as real work experience on your resume. Many Clinton Institute students receive part-time employment offers from their placement host facility after qualifying. Melbourne aged care employers actively recruit from placement students.
